Opening my business was one of the highlights of my life; a topsy-turvy, exciting time that was filled with many challenges. I was happy to face each and every one of them and happier still that my dream became reality. My business became successful; so successful in fact that I’m currently opening an office in another state. The way in which we serve customers - and the demographic of those customers - made a satellite office almost inevitable and certainly something that would help us to further expand our business. I was on the road and I had a strong team and web conference with me as I worked to establish this new branch and solidify roots in another state.
Web conferencing is something that is very important in our business. Not only does it allow us to conveniently reach out and communicate with clients and even prospective clients and vendors, it allowed us to effectively do our jobs no matter where in the world we were at the moment - and with a national and hopefully one day, global, customer base, this was incredibly important.
We have always used some form or another of teleconferencing services over the years. Audio conferencing was something with which we were most comfortable but over time we expanded into web conference and video conference which were a revelation in our business. We have used video conference several times to pitch new business accounts across the country and web conferencing is something that we use on almost a daily basis to communicate with our clients on ongoing projects.
Now web conferencing was going to take on an even greater role in our company as we used it to not only stay in touch with current clients while were on the road, but to stay in touch with our home office to make sure things were running smoothly there as well. More in the next post.

In the last post I talked about the launch of my new business and how I had much to consider in the way of financial decisions - and my policy of business operation. We wanted to come out of the gate with some fire; to be noticed from the beginning and to be able to start generating a great reputation right from the start. Web conferencing was just one of the things that we were going to be implementing right away as it would give us an opportunity to expand our business and really change the scope of our client base.
Web conferencing allows people to essentially “meet” online using Internet space. There, just as you would in a traditional conference room, you can share information, talk in real time, share documents with each other and more. When it came time to open my own business I had much to consider, not the least of which was determining how best to spend my money. Technology is so vastly different from where it was even five years ago. Things continue to evolve steadily even on a daily basis and those in business - those who ultimately use and benefit from this technology - are charged with keeping pace as best they can. There are those things that we can’t imagine that we were ever able to live without - and yet we did somehow! And there are those things that we can’t imagine will ever be off the radar; those programs and technologies that we just know will continue to hold a strong place in our lives even as they continually evolve and become even more superior - something that we can’t even envision at the moment. Web conference is one example of technology that most of us can’t imagine having ever lived without in business; and something that we will likely continue to see evolve over the years as it becomes something even more spectacular and continues to change the face of business.

We may be used to communicating through email but for many of us that is where Internet technology had stopped in helping to us to support our business. Today, however, we are just as likely to use the Internet as a meeting place as we are the conference rooms in our offices.

It is one thing to have a phone conference and another to meet in person; there can be no confusing the two. Meeting in person provides the opportunity to look people in the eye and establish a personal relationship in the span of that meeting time. In our family owned business it has been my father at the helm for as long as I can remember. I was groomed from a very young age to know that I would one day run this company and it has always been something to which I have looked forward with equal parts anticipation and responsibility. I spent a lifetime of summer vacations and winter breaks in my family’s company learning it from the inside out so that I could one day take my rightful place as owner. I never thought that I would actually ever see the day that my father would retire but it came last year and although he can often be found roaming around the offices on most days he has, for all intents and purposes, relinquished control to me. I was chomping at the bit to take the company in a new, more modern direction; I felt strongly that there were many things that we could be doing to stay more competitive but they were not things my father would feel comfortable pursuing. Now that I’m charge I went right to work on bringing us into the next generation of technology.

I knew that there was a whole world of business out there; business that we were not going after because my father felt that we couldn’t bridge the distance and communicate with our customers effectively if they were on the other side of the country or in another country altogether. Technology has certainly moved at the speed of light and it’s been up to all of us - on a personal and business level - to find our comfort level among the many applications that are available to us. It is one thing to learn how to use something and another altogether to use it effectively - in a way that allows you to promote your company and grow your business in one way or another. I love the New Year; it gives all of us a chance to essentially start over and put new plans in place . So no matter what we might have done in the year previous (within reason) we all have our opportunity to make it right. There’s nothing like a fresh start in my opinion. Of course, there are personal clean slates and there are professional clean slates. In business we utilize the New Year as a tool to make financial plans for the coming months. We put together marketing plans, budgets, and more. This year we are also putting together a plan for teleconferencing services - something that we are confident will help us build our business more effectively.
Teleconferencing services - including audio conferencing, web conferencing, and video conference - are a part of modern technology and help companies to better communicate. We have held off on using web conference or anything like it simply because we were unsure about how it all worked and were intimated by the process. But now that we have a new marketing manager - one who is very savvy about this kind of technology we are looking to embrace these measures of communication and use them to our advantage.
Our new marketing guy wants to use video conference in new business pitches so we can reach out to potential clients around the world and web conference to work more efficiently on client projects without having to conduct face-to-face meetings. He feels confident that this will help us to expand our client base and definitely improve our branding on a global scale.
In the coming year web conference and video conference will most definitely be a part of the mix for our business. We are happy to be able to use this modern technology in order to start with a clean slate this year and reach new levels of success.

I will fully admit that I am not one to embrace technology with wild abandon. In fact, I am much more the type to be dragged kicking and screaming into the next phase of technology and even when I am finally using it I am doing so begrudgingly. This may be acceptable in my personal life but most definitely not in the world of business. When it comes to my professional life I know that I need to be more accepting and open to technology because it is, quite simply, crucial to the future of business. So, when it comes to business I have been far more accommodating than I would likely be otherwise; and it has afforded me many surprises in that I have found that I quite enjoy and even rely upon many of these tools, including web conferencing.
If you would have asked me last year about teleconferencing services the only thing I would have been remotely familiar with is audio conferencing - something that we have used in our business quite often. But web conference and video conference were another story entirely. When we first began to use web conferencing and then video conference I was completely intimidated but I soon realized how many benefits these tools delivered.
Web conferencing is something that we began using for one of our clients for which we manage many projects. We needed to be able to go over documents on a near daily basis - among five team members. The problem was that this client was across the country from us and we needed a much better way to communicate than through email. Web conferencing allowed us to talk in real time and share documents among the team so that we could make changes on the fly and continue onward towards completing the tasks at hand.
