Video Conference for Social Studies Education
We live in an ever changing world. In addition to the shifts in our communities, our world is also becoming smaller on a daily basis through advances in science and computers. We have the ability to easily communicate worldwide through the development of new technologies like video conference, which are being broadened upon on a daily basis. By giving young children the tools to manage skillfully in this worldwide community through applying a global approach to education, teachers are able to promote the ability of these children to effectively and successfully contribute to the world in the future.
Because the world is composed of various types of populations, teaching children about diverse cultures and individuals first hand through the use of video conference allows children to learn about life outside of their own environment in an interactive way and using real world experiences. Students from anywhere in the world can see each other and communicate with each other when utilizing the video conference medium. Younger children are less likely to exhibit intolerance or prejudices towards other populations and will be able to gain vast knowledge through video conference without specific preconceptions. By teaching about many diverse cultures and customs, children are not only able to gain knowledge about themselves and their communities, but they are able to explore the similarities and differences between languages, celebrations, behaviors and educations of people all over the globe.
Integrating video conference into social studies education at young grades is giving children a strong foundation in global social studies. At the same time communities are promoting the ability to share information, develop relationships, and lessen the likelihood of communication conflicts and misunderstandings between individuals. This educational foundation will help children increase their cultural confidence with respect to other populations and arm them with the skills necessary to become the leaders of our future.
